Log Supply

Log Supply

Claymark sources only the best pruned logs from New Zealand's Central North Island forests for processing into its superior performing appearance grade products.

Claymark sources all of its wood from plantation forests which are managed using sustainable practices. New Zealand grows some of the best Radiata Pine in the world due to many years of genetic improvement and the use of state-of-the-art silvicultural systems. Claymark processes what is known as 'pruned' wood. This comes from trees that have been managed in a way which gives knot free timber which significantly enhances its performance and gives superior aesthetic and finishing qualities. Logs processed at Claymark's sawmills are sourced from the central regions of the North Island of New Zealand.

Sawmilling

Sawmilling

Claymark's sawmilling processes are highly optimised to maximise the full value from each log.

Claymark uses modern technology to scan logs for shape and dimensions before breaking logs down into boards. This ensures the best sawing patterns are adopted for each log and maintains a high recovery of useable timber from each log processed. After the initial break down of the logs through the bandsaw, boards are cut to final sizes through several re-saw configurations. The emphasis always being on getting the most out of each log, minimising residues, and ensuring each board is of the highest quality possible. Sawdust from the sawing process is sent to the heat plant for burning in modern wood fuelled boilers. This heat is used for the kiln drying of the wood. After sawing each board is treated with a fungicide to control "blue-stain" and then carefully graded into specific product lines.

Remanufacturing

Remanufacturing

Remanufacturing adds value to all of our products.

Claymark has New Zealand's most advanced remanufacturing facilities. Remanufacturing relates to the following processes: cutting defects from boards and up-grading their use, finger-jointing short up-graded boards to produce longer length products, gauging and profiling boards, and coating and finishing. New Zealand grown Radiata Pine consistently finishes to a high quality. Finger-jointing is an important part of Claymark's optimisation process and allows us to produce a broader range of products that meet our customer needs. Radiata Pine is well known for its finger-jointing properties.

Treatment

Treatment

Claymark's Tru-Core treatment and preservation process is one of the most environmentally friendly options currently available.

Treatment and preservation of our Radiata timber is critical where it is used for any exterior application or where the wood is susceptible to wetting. Being a 'softwood', Radiata is not naturally durable. But due to its wood structure it is highly permeable which makes it easy to treat with preservatives which can give it durability characteristics which often far exceed those of naturally durable species. Furthermore, clearwood (wood from the outer part of trees and which is largely knot free - this is the type of wood Claymark produces) will be completely penetrated with preservatives. Treating with Tru-Core® ensures full treatment of the heart wood. This ensures the effectiveness of the treatment process. Claymark uses one of the most safest and environmentally friendly timber treatment processes available today. The Tru-Core® process uses a water-based carrier system that penetrates the wood and glue joints which results in 100% penetration of the cross section of wood being treated. The process is well contained, simple, and clean and because all products can be treated in their final shape and form there is no treated wood residues from gauging and planning after treatment. The Tru-Core® system consists of a broad spectrum of active fungicides, insecticides and termiticides - which give protection to the timber in all climates and situations.
